This week I start a new chapter in my life —Retirement!
Although I’m looking forward to not having to sit an alarm every morning, and can sleep until either the sun comes up or I decide to get up, finally be able to check off those long admired travel destinations on my bucket list, and spend more time with my family and friends, I have some fears also.
Will I become lazy and waste my days away in front of the TV, or will I be struck with disease and not be able to do anything at all? Will I become unproductive and of no use to God or anyone else and waste these last precious years of life?
After years of the routine of getting up and going to work each day, how will I adjust to so much free time? Will I make the right choices in what I do with it all? After all, this is the first time in my adult life that I’ve had this much discretionary time. While the choices may now be limitless, the responsibility to be a good steward of my time remains.
What about you?
If you are retired or nearing retirement you probably have some of the same concerns.
Through this blog I hope to share inspiration, encouragement, and motivation to help you and me make the most of these precious retirement years.
This isn’t a money blog on how to save money for retirement – you’ve already done that, but rather how to spend it! Even if you haven’t saved a ton and are on more a limited income, you still have that valuable commodity of time which is much more precious than money. There’s so much we can do that costs little or nothing! The idea is to stay active, functioning, and most importantly, serving others as long as life remains.
I’ll share first hand travel tips from places I’ve personally visited and also local activities I’ve discovered that you can do with your spouse, family and grandchildren. I’ll explore courses that help you grow and continue learning throughout life, ideas for dealing with common issues many face in retirement like loneliness or demotivation, tips from health professionals, my favorite food discoveries, and encouragement from a Biblical perspective. All to help you and I make the most of every single remaining day on this wonderful planet.
I believe as long as God has us on this earth, he has a purpose for our life. Our true happiness and fulfillment always comes through serving others, having purpose and making progress toward goals. Through this blog I hope to help you and I discover, define and live out these years to the max so that we can truly enjoy every single last sunset.
“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you a hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11
